I love twitter for its ability to link you with other people, but yes, you have to remember you're dealing with PEOPLE and it's called 'SOCIAL media' for a reason. Like Perry Belcher said, using social networking eg, twitter, facebook, blogging etc is like going to a party - the first thing out of your mouth when you arrive is not - "Hey, wanna buy my stuff?" Buy you talk, you learn about the other 'guests' and then perhaps share your products or solutions once you know them better...and once they know you.
